The new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, will soon announce her position on how the mediation process of the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will continue—whether it will proceed with a Special Representative, as it did during Josep Borrell’s mandate, or if Kallas herself will take over the mediation process.
This was stated by officials from Brussels.
The new EU spokesperson, Anitta Hipper, said that the EU will soon announce its position regarding how the process will move forward. Hipper also emphasized that Miroslav Lajčak’s mandate remains valid until January 31, 2025.
“The mandate of the EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčak remains valid until the end of January. We will make an announcement soon regarding the future,” Hipper told Gazeta Express.
Earlier, several potential names had been speculated to replace Slovak Miroslav Lajčak as the envoy. However, Brussels decided to extend Lajčak’s mandate until January 31, 2025, due to the lack of consensus on any of the potential replacements.
