The chief diplomat of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg, lobbied for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.
Adding that Kosovo deserves to become a member of the Council of Europe, Osmani emphasized that membership would also affect the stability of regional cooperation.
“It is of great importance that we do not shy away from embracing new members who share our values and commitments. That’s why we have constantly supported Kosovo’s bid for membership in the Council of Europe and we welcome the opinion that recommends the Committee of Ministers to invite Kosovo for membership in the organization.
We believe that the citizens of Kosovo deserve to be protected by the European Convention on Human Rights and other instruments and that early membership will facilitate the continuation of reforms and will also contribute to regional stability and cooperation”, said Osmani.
We remind you that Kosovo has failed to be part of the agenda of this meeting in Strasbourg, due to the rejection by the Government of Kosovo of the requests of Germany, France and Italy to take concrete steps for the Association.
While, during the day, the current chairperson of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Dominique Hasler, announced that this committee is examining how to proceed for Kosovo’s admission to this organization.
