Bulgaria has officially entered the eurozone today, adopting the euro as its national currency— a historic step that combines European integration with the preservation of national identity.
The Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, Dimitar Radev, stated that the euro is not merely a financial change, but also a political and social message. He emphasized that the lev, a symbol of Bulgarian history, is not disappearing, but will continue to represent national heritage alongside European currency.
The new coins retain historical figures such as the Madara Horseman, Saint Ivan of Rila, and Paisius of Hilendar, as well as the inscription “God Protect Bulgaria,” demonstrating that national identity and cultural heritage remain intact even in the era of the euro.
