The once all-powerful Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), led by Aleksandar Vučić, is now watching its political empire erode — not just in numbers, but in legitimacy. Senior research associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, Dejan Bursać, has stated that the SNS has irretrievably lost part of its rating and can no longer attract new voters.

“They’ve lost their base, disappointed many. While polls still place SNS relatively high, the real crisis lies in the fact that the opposition and the public have finally awakened and mobilized,” Bursać told Nova newspaper.

According to him, the wave of dissatisfaction is unprecedented, as tens of thousands of citizens who once stayed silent are now demanding change and accountability from Vučić’s regime.

Bursać pointed directly to the government’s corruption, incompetence, and abuse of procedures, long before the tragic fall of the canopy in Novi Sad — and even more so afterward, when the regime responded with arrogance, violence, and fear instead of transparency.

“Through its corruption and brutality, SNS has completely mobilized the other side — all those who are against the regime. They created their own opposition,” Bursać emphasized.

He underlined that Vučić’s government now survives not on public support, but on control, pressure, and manipulation, adding that the ruling party is terrified of new elections.

“They can no longer maintain the illusion of majority support. That’s why they won’t dare call extraordinary parliamentary elections,” he said.

As Serbia faces growing protests at home and condemnation abroad, the once dominant SNS is showing cracks too deep to hide — and its downfall, experts warn, may have already begun.
