In a serious traffic accident that occurred in central Stockholm, a bus crashed into a bus station in Östermalm, resulting in fatalities and several injuries.
The spokesperson for the public transport operator SL, Sophie Gunnarsson, described the event as “a serious incident,” while emergency authorities confirmed the presence of severe injuries.
“There are many injured people,” said Oscar Davila from the emergency services.
Later, the police confirmed that there are fatalities, but did not provide details about the number, age, or gender of the victims.
“For the moment, the police are not commenting on information regarding the victims,” the statement said.
The cause of the accident remains unknown. “Unfortunately, we do not know,” Gunnarsson said briefly.
The area around the accident has been thrown into chaos, with major traffic blockages during the afternoon rush hour, causing significant delays.
Police have opened an investigation, treating the case as a serious crime related to causing death by negligence.
