Bus drivers and workers in both public and private transport in Prishtina have begun gathering for the planned protest this Monday, which is expected to last until 12:00 PM. The protest comes in response to unpaid wages and debts to suppliers, caused by the municipal budget remaining blocked by the Ministry of Finance.

Since November 24, the public operator “Trafiku Urban” has suspended operations in protest of workers’ grievances. Last week, the workers, alongside Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama, marched to the government to demand the unblocking of the city’s finances.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Assembly approved the transfer of 28 million euros from 2024 to 2025, while Mayor Rama requested from the acting Finance Minister, Hekuran Murati, the release of own-source revenues and municipal grants, totaling 35 million euros.

Today’s protest is part of ongoing pressure on authorities to guarantee wages and ensure the functioning of public services, while Prishtina residents are expected to face disruptions in public transport during the morning hours.
