The protest organized by Kosovar businesses against the liberalization of the energy market has officially concluded, and all blocked entrances to Pristina have now been reopened.
On Thursday morning, May 29, 2025, business owners and citizens blocked key entry points to the capital in Veternik, at the Flag Roundabout, on the road to Fushë-Kosovë, toward Mitrovica, and from Podujeva through the Vranjevc neighborhood.
The roadblocks lasted as announced—from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The protest was sparked by a decision from the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) to liberalize the energy market, requiring all large businesses to find their own electricity providers starting June 1, 2025. Under this new regulation, these businesses will no longer be supplied with electricity at regulated prices and will instead be subject to the free market. If a supplier is not secured, companies will be automatically shifted to the open market with unregulated and potentially higher prices.
Business representatives argued that the change will significantly raise operating costs and threaten the survival of small and medium-sized enterprises.
In response to the protest, the Minister of Economy has announced a press conference to address the concerns raised.
