Cambodia will nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister has announced, citing Trump’s direct intervention in ending a tense Southeast Asian border conflict with Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol thanked Trump for restoring peace, stating that he “deserves to be nominated for the world’s highest international prize.”
According to Cambodian authorities, a phone call between Trump and Thailand’s leadership brought an end to a violent border standoff that claimed 43 lives and displaced over 300,000 people.
