This year, Canada, which holds the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7), has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to participate in the upcoming summit in June, set to take place in Alberta, Western Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who assumed office last Friday, spoke with Zelensky and extended the invitation to the G7 summit, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a post on the social media platform “X,” President Zelensky mentioned having a “good conversation with Carney,” emphasizing the importance of increasing pressure on Moscow. However, he did not specifically mention receiving an invitation to the G7 summit this year.

The G7 reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and issued a warning to Russia about potential new sanctions after a meeting of foreign ministers from G7 member states. Just last week, G7 leaders reiterated their firm backing for Ukraine and threatened further sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing conflict.
