Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced today an additional $2.5 billion in economic assistance for Ukraine, reinforcing Canada’s continued support amid the ongoing war with Russia.

Speaking during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Carney stated that the aid package will help Ukraine unlock further resources from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Zelensky briefly addressed journalists following the meeting.

According to a statement released by Carney’s office on Saturday, the two leaders also discussed recent developments in peace negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“The Prime Minister reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to Ukraine throughout these negotiations and emphasized the need to maintain pressure on Russia to engage seriously in talks,” the statement said.
