The Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is not a priority for the West, due to global events. This is what the politician Nenad Çanak declares.

However, he clarifies that the process has given certain results. He is of the opinion that the situation has changed drastically since last year and emphasizes that Serbia already recognizes many elements of citizenship from Kosovo. Identification documents or license plates are some of them.

“There is progress because only a year and a half ago there was almost a war because of the Kosovo license plates, today it is no longer a problem. The documents of Kosovo are well known. Since all this is known, you have a step-by-step knowledge of Kosovo, in small parts. Serbia, as it is today, can never accept only one thing, and that is that it has recognized Kosovo. Because she cannot admit that she has known Kosovo, every other word comes into play, except recognition”, said Çanak, former leader of the Social Democratic League of Vojvodina.

Currently, in Belgrade it is believed that there is a political vacuum caused by the elections in Great Britain, France and the USA. This enables the strengthening of the opponents of the normalization of relations between the two countries.

Ivan Videnovic, a professor at the University of Belgrade, says the German-French plan that gave rise to the Ohrid Agreement needs to be revitalized and brought back into focus.

“It seems to me that a step back has been taken because the obligations of both parties regarding the implementation of the Association and the fulfillment of Serbia’s obligations regarding the non-opposition of Kosovo’s membership in international organizations have been postponed. Therefore, the German-French plan from which the Ohrid Agreement was born must be revitalized and brought back into focus,” Videnovic said.

However, there is much expectation from the dialogue that the issue of normalization will return to the spotlight with a new administration in Brussels. This, in order to avoid possible instability.
