Former Swedish Prime Minister and prominent diplomat, Carl Bildt, has raised concern over the ongoing political stalemate in Kosovo, warning that the prolonged inability to form a new government is damaging the country’s international credibility.

In a post on his official profile on X (formerly Twitter), Bildt questioned whether Kosovo would ever manage to establish a new government, suggesting that the institutional paralysis is harming not only the country but the broader region and its international partners.

“Will Kosovo ever have a new government? The inability to move forward has damaged the credibility of the country. And that is bad for everyone,” Bildt wrote.

The statement comes amid weeks of political impasse in Kosovo, with repeated failed attempts to constitute the Assembly and elect a new Speaker, a process necessary for forming a government. The gridlock has drawn increasing international attention and concern, particularly from European diplomats and institutions invested in Kosovo’s democratic development and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Bildt, a key figure in Balkan diplomacy over the past three decades, has long advocated for political stability and reforms in the region. His latest comment underscores the growing frustration among international observers regarding the deteriorating functionality of Kosovo’s democratic institutions.
