American television network CBS News reports that the number of fatalities in the ongoing protests against the government in Iran is at least 12,000, and could be as high as 20,000.
The network states that it obtained this figure from two sources inside Iran via phone calls, who said the numbers were collected by activist groups on the ground analyzing hospital data, according to The Guardian.
The Iranian regime has not released any official death toll.
Meanwhile, Reuters cited an unnamed official claiming that around 2,000 people have been killed in the past two weeks of protests.
