While the counting of votes for the candidates in the February 9th parliamentary elections was completed on Friday evening across the 38 Municipal Counting Centers, another process is nearing its end.

This process concerns the evaluation of the ballot packages from abroad.

“Since February 9, when the evaluation or verification of the ballot packages from voting outside Kosovo began, and until February 21, a total of 54,409 packages have been processed. Of these, 51,140 have been approved, while 3,269 were rejected,” said CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi.

Elezi also clarified the reasons why these packages were rejected.

“They were sent by individuals who were canceled during the registration process as voters abroad, lacked a registration certificate, were sent multiple times, or included more than one ballot,” Elezi explained.

He also mentioned that 14,306 more ballot packages are yet to undergo the evaluation process.

During the registration period, 104,924 citizens were registered to vote abroad. Of these, 84,600 were registered for postal voting, and 20,324 were registered for voting at diplomatic missions.

“Out of the 20,324 registered at diplomatic missions, 15,352 voted, while around 69,000 ballot packages were received via mail,” Elezi said.

He also noted that 14,306 additional ballot packages are set to undergo evaluation.

Meanwhile, another process set to begin next week is the counting of conditional votes and votes from people with special needs.

A total of 12,801 conditional ballots will be counted, while 2,597 votes from people with special needs, cast on February 9, will also be counted at the Counting and Results Center.
