The Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK) has announced that the international payment service “Apple Pay” is now officially available in Kosovo, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing path toward digitalization, Reporteri.net reports.
According to the CBK’s statement, banks and financial institutions in Kosovo can now link their payment cards to the Apple Pay platform, enabling both citizens and businesses to make fast, secure, and contactless payments through their Apple devices.
“The full implementation of this service across all banks and financial institutions will take the necessary time, depending on individual agreements and the required technical integrations,” the CBK stated.
“This marks another important step toward modernizing the payment system, increasing financial inclusion, and accelerating digital transformation in Kosovo.”
Following the earlier integration of Google Pay, the introduction of Apple Pay is described by the CBK as a crucial addition to Kosovo’s strategy to internationalize financial services and align with European digital payment standards.
The Central Bank emphasized that this success comes as a result of close collaboration between CBK, the local banking sector, and international partners—especially the Embassy of the United States of America.
