The United States has named Altin Dumani, the head of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), as one of the global champions of anti-corruption.
The award was presented by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a ceremony marking International Anti-Corruption Day.
In his speech, Blinken praised Dumani’s work and the agency he leads, highlighting SPAK’s role in fighting corruption and organized crime in Albania.
“Altin Dumani, from Albania, leads a new agency (SPAK). He has targeted high-ranking politicians and major criminal groups, doing an extraordinary job. SPAK is one of the most trusted institutions in Albania,” said Blinken.
The Secretary of State emphasized the importance of continuing the policy of sanctions against individuals involved in corruption, mentioning the “non-grata” system as an effective tool to challenge those who undermine justice.
“We have implemented the non-grata system for problematic individuals, those involved in corruption. This policy has yielded extraordinary results and has changed the perception of justice,” added Blinken.
Since 2021, the U.S. Department of State has recognized 43 individuals worldwide for their efforts in supporting democracy and accountability.
