A technical failure in the police computer systems has caused chaos at airports across Germany. The Federal Police announced that due to system issues, it was impossible to process passengers coming from countries outside the Schengen Area.
Previously electronic checks are now being carried out manually, resulting in significant delays.
A spokesperson for the Federal Police at Frankfurt Airport stated, “Colleagues now have to do many tasks manually, which were previously handled electronically by the system.”
At the same time, German public broadcaster WDR reported long queues at security checks at Düsseldorf Airport, where many passengers have been waiting for over two hours.
Currently, it is not possible to enter Germany from outside the Schengen Area, according to the latest updates from the airports.
