The Childhood War Museum officially opens today in Prishtina, aiming to preserve memories of childhood during the Kosovo War and ensure personal wartime experiences are never forgotten. The initiative, organized by YIHR KS, invites visitors to reflect on the impact of war on the youngest victims.

The museum will open its doors at 6:00 PM at the YIHR KS offices. It features curated exhibits, personal artifacts, and video testimonies that shed light on the experiences of children during Kosovo’s recent conflict.

“Interrupted Play”: A Tribute to Wartime Childhood

The museum’s debut exhibition, Interrupted Play, symbolizes the abrupt disruption of childhood caused by war. It delves into harrowing journeys of hiding, fleeing under extreme conditions, facing traumatic losses, and navigating the aftermath of the conflict.

In a public statement, organizers emphasized the museum’s role as a collective memory space, saying:

“The Childhood War Museum brings to light forgotten stories of the past, recognizing the diverse experiences of war and the importance of sharing these narratives. It fosters critical curiosity, empathy, and a desire for freedom, justice, and reconciliation.”

The museum stands as a memorial and educational platform, encouraging visitors to engage with the stories of those who lived through the war as children, reminding them of the importance of peace and resilience.
