According to U.S. intelligence, China is preparing to send Iran new air defense systems in the coming weeks, based on information from three sources familiar with the latest assessments.

This move is seen as provocative, as Beijing had previously stated it helped mediate a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to visit China next month for talks with President Xi Jinping.

The report highlights that Iran may be using the ceasefire to replenish its arsenal with the help of foreign partners, CNN reports.

Two sources say China is attempting to deliver the equipment through third countries in order to conceal its origin.

The systems in question are MANPADS—shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles—which have posed a threat to U.S. aircraft flying at low altitudes during conflicts.

The Chinese embassy in Washington has denied the allegations, stating that China has not supplied weapons to any party and respects its international obligations.

According to the sources, the delivery of these systems would mark a new level of Chinese support for Iran, differing from previous sales of dual-use technology conducted through Chinese companies.

Analysts say China is trying to maintain close relations with Iran due to its dependence on Iranian oil, while publicly remaining neutral and avoiding direct involvement in the conflict.
