Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet with a U.S. delegation in the United Kingdom next week for trade negotiations, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced tonight.
He Lifeng will be in the UK from June 8 to June 13 at the invitation of the British government. During his visit, the Chinese Vice Premier will co-chair the first meeting of the China-US Economic and Trade Consultation Mechanism with American representatives.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the China-US trade talks would be held in London on Monday, in an attempt to reach an agreement between the two powers amidst their tariff dispute. Trump specified on his “Truth Social” platform that the U.S. delegation would include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
This will mark the second meeting between Chinese and U.S. representatives since Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The first meeting, held in mid-May in Geneva, temporarily eased the trade dispute between the world’s two leading economies following new U.S. tariff measures. However, Trump later accused Beijing of failing to adhere to the terms of that de-escalation agreement.
In April, Trump increased tariffs on Chinese goods to 145 percent, prompting China to retaliate by raising tariffs on imported U.S. goods to 125 percent.
