China has expressed “serious concern” over Israel’s plan to take control of Gaza City, calling on Israel to “immediately halt dangerous actions.”

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, speaking to AFP, stated that “Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory.”

He added that “the right way to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to secure the release of hostages is an immediate ceasefire.”

The spokesperson also stressed: “A comprehensive solution to the Gaza conflict depends on a ceasefire; only then can the path be opened to reducing tensions and ensuring regional security.”

Beijing further emphasized its readiness to work with the international community to help end the war in Gaza as quickly as possible.

The statement comes after Israel’s security cabinet approved a plan to take military control of Gaza, launching a ground offensive by October 7 — the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

The plan includes:

  • Disarming Hamas
  • Returning all hostages (alive and dead)
  • Demilitarizing the Gaza Strip
  • Post-war Israeli security control
  • Establishing a civilian administration not linked to Hamas or the Palestinian Authority

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that Israel does not seek permanent governance of Gaza, but aims for clear security arrangements and a transfer of control to Arab forces, without specifying which states.
