Following the 25th failed attempt to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo, Vlora Çitaku, Deputy Chair of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), voiced grave concerns about the state of the economy and the wellbeing of Kosovo’s families.
In a brief statement to the media after the session, Çitaku criticized Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV) for prolonging the political stalemate:
“Kosovo’s economy is being damaged and endangered. 140,000 workers are at risk, our families are at risk, and yet Parliament and the country’s institutions remain blocked because of the stubbornness of the leading parliamentary group.”
Call for Reflection
Çitaku made a public appeal for political reflection, urging all sides to put national interest above partisan agendas.
“Once again, we call for reflection. Kosovo is greater than any one of us,” she stated.
Ongoing Political Impasse
LVV’s nominee Albulena Haxhiu has repeatedly failed to secure the 61 votes needed to be elected Speaker of the Assembly. In response, the party has sought to switch to a secret ballot process, proposing the creation of a special commission — a move that has also failed multiple times, including today, with only 51 votes in favor.
Opposition parties argue that changing the voting method mid-process is a breach of procedure. The Constitutional Court is currently reviewing the legality of the issue.
