The former general of NATO, Wesley Clark, has warned of the danger that a new conflict could start in the Balkans, if Russia is not stopped in Ukraine.
He told CNN that Serbia serves Russia’s interests and what this country is looking for is Russia’s support for territorial expansion.
“Russia’s hand is felt in the Balkans, Serbia is Russia’s hand in the Balkans and serves Russia’s interests. “Vucic is smart, he wants to look like he’s playing both sides, but when the time comes he’ll do what Putin wants him to do.”
“What he wants from Putin is of course the authority to use his forces in Kosovo, and of course they want the partition of Bosnia and take Republika Srpska and make ‘Greater Serbia.’ We have seen a lot of violence, murder in the last 30 years and we thought that NATO has stopped it, but if there are problems in Ukraine, that problem will come to the Balkans and leaders, like Prime Minister Kurti, must face it”, he said. he said.
Clark has added that NATO should be involved in the liberation of Ukraine as it did with Kosovo in 1999.
“Putin knows we don’t want provocation leading to nuclear confrontation and continues to warn us with nuclear drills. I know that NATO is not afraid of this… We insisted, NATO insisted because the US as a leader insisted and Britain was also a big part like Albright and Clinton, we did not back down”.
“This is the time when NATO must redouble its determination that Putin will not win and we must do more than provide weapons. NATO must do more, for example in Kosovo today 25 years of democracy, a free state, I was there, everyone has a horror story as the Prime Minister (Albin Kurti) recalled and everyone is thankful for NATO. It must be the same for Ukraine, we must save Ukraine. It is our duty as NATO”, said Clark.
