A heated dispute unfolded on Wednesday during a session of the Municipal Assembly of North Mitrovica after assembly member Marko Jakshiq requested that the agenda include a discussion on the current situation in northern Kosovo and recent developments in North Mitrovica.
Jakshiq referred to the recent arrest of nine people in Zubin Potok and alleged that work on a municipal project had been halted. He called for the assembly to discuss the developments and adopt a statement expressing its position.
Assembly member Aida Ferati-Doli responded, arguing that the issues raised by Jakshiq should not be linked to the properties of Trepça on political or ethnic grounds.
The exchange escalated when Assembly Chairperson Ivan Zaporozhac interrupted Ferati-Doli, saying that the issue she was addressing was not part of the agenda.
Ferati-Doli objected to the interruption and said that she and other Albanian assembly members were being prevented from speaking, calling for the debate to be allowed to continue.
The dispute was also joined by Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) assembly member Emir Azemi, who criticized the way the session was being chaired.
Zaporozhac later said that Ferati-Doli had not taken the floor to propose an addition to the agenda, but rather to respond to Jakshiq’s remarks.
The incident comes amid continuing political disagreements within the North Mitrovica municipal assembly, where representatives of different communities have clashed in recent months over municipal decisions, public symbols and the management of local affairs. Previous assembly sessions have also featured disagreements between Ferati-Doli, Zaporozhac and other councillors.
