The tumultuous session of the Belgrade City Assembly has ended with clashes and incidents involving private security guards. Police intervened, and at least five activists were arrested.
Since the early morning, assembly members in Nikola Pašić Square were met with metal fences and a large security personnel presence. When the session was about to begin, opposition councilors stood in front of the chairman’s desk holding Serbian flags while continuously broadcasting and singing the Serbian national anthem.
At the same time, government councilors were seated. The opposition representatives had earlier stated that their plan was to prevent the assembly’s work without resorting to violence or intervening inside the building.
The majority in power then approved the agenda, according to N1.
Meanwhile, outside the Assembly, an altercation took place between private security personnel and the gathered citizens. Prior to the clash, the citizens threw eggs and red paint. Police replaced the private security guards outside the building, and arrests followed.
