UNMIK has reacted to the closure of the Health Insurance Fund and the Disability and Pension Insurance Fund offices in Mitrovica, which were operating under the Serbian system.
The mission called for unresolved matters to be handled constructively through dialogue.
“UNMIK is concerned about the closure of Serbia-run institutions in northern Kosovo, including the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund and the Health Insurance Fund of the Republic. Moreover, many in non-majority communities, including Kosovo Serbs, continue to face challenges in obtaining Kosovo identification documents and valid residence permits, which may hinder their ability to register their vehicles and obtain license plates. Actions on these issues, taken without consultation or prior notice to the affected communities, negatively impact their daily lives and socioeconomic rights, hinder their integration, and limit access to healthcare and other essential services. UNMIK reiterates its call for all unresolved issues to be addressed constructively through the EU-facilitated dialogue,” the statement reads.
