Venezuela’s ousted president, Nicolas Maduro, is set to make his first court appearance in New York following his capture in a U.S. operation on Saturday. He is facing charges related to drugs and weapons trafficking.

Here is what can be expected from today’s hearing, according to CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig:

First, there will be an arraignment hearing, during which Maduro will be formally informed of the charges against him and given the opportunity to enter a plea.

Next, the judge will ensure that Maduro has legal representation in place.

The judge will then consider the issue of bail—although it is highly unlikely that Maduro will be granted release.

Finally, the judge is expected to set a procedural schedule for the case. This may include how quickly the case will move forward, deadlines for filing motions, and possibly a trial date.
