Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe has passed away in hospital, two months after being shot in the head during an electoral rally.

Uribe was competing within his right-wing party to become the presidential candidate. He underwent several surgeries following the attack on June 7th but ultimately did not survive.

The 39-year-old had made significant strides in politics at a young age. At just 25 years old, he was elected to Bogotá’s city council, where he was a prominent opponent of Gustavo Petro, the current president of Colombia.

In 2016, at the age of 30, Uribe was appointed city government secretary, becoming the youngest person to hold this position.
