The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has invited the leaders of the political parties on July 31 to talk about the date of the regular elections for the Assembly of Kosovo.
The spokesperson of the CEC, Valmir Elezi, said that this institution “starts intensive preparations for the preparation and organization of the elections, in terms of carrying out the activities according to the deadlines set by law, once the date for their holding is set”.
But, despite the fact that the date of the elections has not yet been set, Elezi said that the CEC has worked to prepare for the upcoming election process.
“Being aware that this is an election year, since the beginning of this year, the CEC has focused its work on the preparation of many issues related to the CEC’s legal obligations. In this direction is also the software of the CEC, the development of which is in progress and has been made possible with the support of the OSCE. With the help of this software, many of the election operations will be digitized”, said Elezi.
He explained that “through this software, various online services will be offered, as follows: searching for the Voting Center and applying for its change; application for registration of voters outside Kosovo; application for the registration of voters with special needs; application for registration and updating of data of political parties; application for certification of political entities and candidates; application for accreditation for election observation; registration of data for electoral bodies; online application for observer accreditation; data collection and presentation of preliminary and final results in a progressive manner”.
The opposition parties have already responded to Osman’s invitation.
For Tëvë1, the spokesperson of LDK, Besian Mustafa, said that they received the letter from the President and that the chairman of the party, Lumir Abdixhiku, will go to the meeting and there he will reveal the party’s position.
The secretary of PDK, Vlora Çitaku, said in a press conference that they will also show their preferred date at the meeting.
“PDK has accepted President Osmani’s invitation for a meeting about determining the date of the elections, of course we will respond to the invitation. Since July of last year, PDK has demanded early elections, but President Osmani’s invitation is related to the determination of the date for regular elections. We will participate and we will state our position on this matter and the preferred date there,” she said.
Meanwhile, AAK’s spokesperson, Kushtrim Xhemaili said that AAK has no reason not to participate in the meeting, however, he added that the decision will be made in the coming days.
“We have received the letter from the President. Based on this letter, the President will hold consultations on setting the date of the general elections within the regular deadline. I don’t see any reason why the Alliance should not be part of the consultations, but the decisions on this matter will be made by the party structures, I believe on Monday”, he said.
