Ahead of his visit to Belgrade, President of the European Council António Costa held meetings in Montenegro, including one with Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, during which they held a joint press conference.
Speaking to the media, Costa said that while 2028 is a good target for Montenegro to become the EU’s 28th member state, it would be even more meaningful if it happened earlier.
“It’s very important to maintain good relations with your neighbors, especially with those countries that are already EU members,” Costa told the Montenegrin audience.
He added that he is looking forward to continuing joint work tomorrow with other Western Balkan leaders regarding EU enlargement, Vijesti reported.
Costa is also expected to arrive in Kosovo later today, where he will meet with President Vjosa Osmani, followed by a joint press conference.
