Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, outlined the key conditions Kosovo must fulfill to join the organization.
One major requirement is for Kosovo to recognize the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
“To become a member of the Council of Europe, several criteria must be met. One of these is to become a party to the European Convention on Human Rights, recognize the European Court of Human Rights—the Council’s most important body—and implement all its rulings,” Berset said in an interview with Klan Kosova.
He emphasized the importance of access to the Court for all citizens to address human rights violations effectively.
Another crucial point involves engaging and including all citizens living in Kosovo’s territory, including the northern part. Berset noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has set specific conditions that will play a key role in ongoing discussions.
