Arben Fetoshi from the Octopus Institute has commented on the recent counter-espionage operation in Kosovo, warning that the network involved appears to be relatively widespread and may include a significant number of infiltrators, including ethnic Albanians serving hostile Serbian agendas.
“What we can openly state is that their number is likely very large,” Fetoshi said. “While we can be proud of the successful performance of our security institutions in neutralizing these threats, we must also loudly acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. This shows we are dealing with a broad and potentially deeply embedded network of Serbian espionage.”
Fetoshi noted that although the involvement of ethnic Serb citizens is expected, their investigation and neutralization remain particularly challenging due to the ongoing post-conflict complexities between Kosovo and Serbia.
However, he expressed particular concern over the involvement of Kosovo Albanians who are aiding Serbia’s intelligence agenda.
“Unfortunately, we’ve seen that there are also individuals of Albanian background who serve Serbia’s hostile objectives, and this compels us to accept that there are likely more collaborators yet to be uncovered.”
Fetoshi emphasized the urgent need for the Republic of Kosovo to treat this issue with maximum seriousness, particularly by increasing investments in intelligence and counter-espionage efforts.
