The Basic Court of Prishtina has extended the pre-trial detention of Fatmir Sheholli by an additional two months, following a request by the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK). Sheholli is suspected of espionage on behalf of Serbia’s Security Information Agency (BIA).

The decision was confirmed for Dukagjini Portal by Mirlinda Gashi, spokesperson for the Basic Court of Prishtina.

According to Gashi, the pre-trial judge approved the prosecution’s request on January 9, 2026, concluding that there is grounded suspicion that the defendant committed the criminal offense of continuous espionage.

“Following the request of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo for the extension of detention in the criminal case against the defendant F.SH., and after reviewing the request, the pre-trial judge approved the request and extended the detention for a duration of two months,” Gashi stated.

Detention Period and Legal Background

Under the court ruling, Sheholli’s detention will remain in effect from January 9 until March 9, 2026.

Sheholli was initially arrested on October 9, 2025, on suspicion of espionage, and the Prishtina court ordered his first one-month detention on October 10.

Alleged Links to Serbian Intelligence

According to the investigation, Sheholli is suspected of acting over a period of time under the instructions of a senior Serbian BIA official, identified as Bojan Dimić. Authorities allege that his activities posed a serious threat to Kosovo’s national security.

The case remains under investigation by the Special Prosecution, while the court maintains that detention is necessary due to the risk of flight, interference with evidence, and the gravity of the charges.
