The Basic Court of Prishtina will hold a hearing tomorrow in the high-profile espionage case against Muharrem Qerimi and Bedri Shabani, who stand accused of providing sensitive information to Serbia’s intelligence service (BIA).
According to the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo (SPRK), the indictment—filed on February 19, 2025—charges the two men with collecting and transmitting classified information and documents related to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), its commanders and members, as well as details concerning the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI), and the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo.
The indictment also claims they provided information on specific events and sites, including the Reçak massacre, to BIA officials Srđan Rosić (responsible for the Pančevo region) and Colonel Bogoljub Janičević, the former Serbian police commander in Ferizaj during the war—who is alleged to have led the police-military operation in Reçak. The information was allegedly transmitted through phone communications, emails, and face-to-face meetings held in Serbian territory.
The prosecution argues that these actions seriously endangered Kosovo’s constitutional and legal order and compromised national security, while also aiding BIA in constructing false narratives intended to distort historical truth—particularly by attempting to link the KLA Military Hospital in Mollopolc, Shtime, to the so-called “Yellow House” in Burrel, Albania, in a disinformation campaign about alleged organ trafficking.
Moreover, the defendants allegedly encouraged BIA officials to take operational actions that could incite inter-ethnic conflict within Kosovo.
For these actions, Bedri Shabani is charged with the criminal offense of “Espionage” under Article 124, paragraph 3 of Kosovo’s Criminal Code.
In addition, Muharrem Qerimi faces an additional charge of unauthorized possession of weapons, as well as accusations that from 2012 until his arrest on June 5, 2024, he continuously assisted BIA by gathering and sending intelligence regarding KLA members, Kosovo Police and AKI officers, and known witnesses of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague related to organized crime and corruption cases.
Through these alleged actions, prosecutors claim that Qerimi and Shabani seriously endangered the security of the Republic of Kosovo and its citizens.
