The Basic Court of Peja has ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention for three individuals arrested by the Kosovo Police on Sunday at the Decani Monastery. The suspects face charges related to writing the phrase “Kosovo is Serbia” on the license plate of a vehicle.
The information was confirmed by Shkodran Nikçi, spokesperson for the Peja Prosecutor’s Office, who stated that the three individuals are suspected of committing the criminal offense of “Incitement to Hatred.”
According to Fadil Gashi, spokesperson for the Peja Police Department, the vehicle was discovered during an Orthodox religious celebration at the Decani Monastery. “The police found a car with Montenegrin license plates parked at the site, which had the inscription ‘Kosovo is Serbia’ written on it,” Gashi said. “The police identified the suspects, and after conducting an intensive investigation, they arrested three individuals. They were questioned, and following the decision of the state prosecutor, they were detained for 48 hours.”
The case has sparked significant attention, as it touches on sensitive political issues regarding Kosovo’s sovereignty. The suspects’ actions have raised concerns over the potential for inciting inter-ethnic tension in the region. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
