Polling stations across Croatia opened at 7:00 AM today for the second round of the presidential elections, with voting scheduled to conclude at 7:00 PM. The State Election Commission (DIP) has announced that electoral silence will remain in effect until the closure of polls, reports Anadolu Agency.
Candidates for the Presidency
The contenders for the five-year presidential term are the incumbent president Zoran Milanović, representing the SDP and its coalition, and Dragan Primorac, the HDZ candidate.
In the first round, Milanović secured 49.09% of the vote (797,936 votes), while Primorac garnered 19.35% (314,663 votes), according to results published on DIP’s website.
Other candidates failed to reach the 10% threshold:
- Marija Selak Raspudić (independent): 9.25%
- Ivana Kekin (Možemo): 8.89%
- Tomislav Jonjić (independent): 5.09%
- Miro Bulj (Most): 3.82%
- Branka Lozo (Domino): 2.41%
- Niko Tokić Kartelo (independent): 0.88%
Electoral Data and Voter Turnout
- Registered Voters: 3.7 million citizens have the right to vote.
- First Round Turnout: 46.03% (1,625,458 voters).
- Second Round Logistics: 3,607,900 ballots printed for the second round.
If Milanović secures a win, he will join former presidents Franjo Tuđman and Stjepan Mesić as leaders who served consecutive terms. Tuđman achieved this in 1992 and 1997, both times in the first round.
