Approximately 120 workers from the Customs Terminal in Hani i Elezit protested today following the decision by the Ministry of Finance to shut down the terminal.

Workers expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, which left them unemployed. Online media outlet Reporteri.net has obtained footage from the protest, showing workers demanding accountability for the closure.

Official Closure Decision

The closure was prompted by the expiration of the terminal’s license and the expropriation process. According to the official decision obtained by Reporteri.net, the Customs Office is ceasing operations on the premises as of January 16, 2025.

The decision states:
“As you are aware, due to the expiration of the license and the expropriation process, the conditions enabling the Customs Office to operate in the premises of the economic operator ‘Terminali’ SH.P.K in Hani i Elezit no longer exist. Therefore, the Kosovo Customs is compelled to cease its operations as a customs office in these premises, withdraw its staff, and halt official activities.”

The affected workers continue to demand clarity and alternative solutions to their sudden unemployment.
