A cyberattack targeting the service provider for check-in and boarding systems has disrupted operations at several major European airports, including Heathrow (UK), Brussels (Belgium), and Berlin (Germany), causing flight delays and cancellations, according to operators.
The attack disabled automated systems, allowing only manual check-in and boarding procedures, the Brussels airport statement reported.
“This has a major impact on flight schedules and, unfortunately, will cause delays and cancellations. The service provider is actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” said the operator in an official statement published on their website, according to BBC.
Heathrow Airport also warned of delays caused by a “technical issue” at a third-party provider. Passengers with flights scheduled for Saturday at the affected airports have been advised to confirm their travel with airlines before departing for the airport, Telegraf reports.
“Due to a technical issue with the system provider operating across Europe, longer wait times are occurring during check-in. We are working on a rapid solution,” the Berlin airport stated in an official notice.
