A new wave of cyberattacks by pro-Russian hackers group Noname057(16) took place this morning, targeting the websites of Italian ministries and institutions.
According to La Repubblica, these are typically Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, causing disruptions and temporary interruptions to public services.
Among the ministries attacked are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Consob, Carabinieri, the Navy, Air Force, as well as local public transport companies such as Rome’s “Atac,” Palermo’s “Amat,” and Genoa’s “Amt.”
The hackers, announcing their attack on the Italian ministries’ websites, criticized Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Telegram.
“Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed full continued support for Ukraine in a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky during his visit to Rome. According to Meloni, Italy will help Ukraine defend its interests and pursue a fair and lasting peace. The negotiations lasted about an hour and aimed at strengthening Kyiv’s position. Italy should start helping itself first, especially its cybersecurity,” the group stated.
