Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre voiced concern over Serbia’s close ties with Russia, warning that such relations undermine its path toward the European Union.
“Russia is a threat to the EU. We must show determination and apply additional pressure on it,” Bjerre stated.
Among all Western Balkan countries, Serbia remains the only one that has not aligned with EU sanctions against Russia. Despite repeated calls from Brussels, Serbian leaders continue to maintain strong ties with the Kremlin, even though, as an EU candidate country, Serbia is obliged to gradually align its foreign and security policies with those of the Union.
