Full letter:
Subject: Urgent Request for Institutional Intervention Regarding the Detention of Kosovo Citizen H.H., Held for 77 Days by Serbian Authorities
Dear Sir/Madam,
I, Anita Haziri, daughter of Kosovo citizen H.H. (born in 1948), am addressing you with this sincere and urgent request for the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to intervene as soon as possible regarding the dramatic situation of my father, who has been detained for 77 days by Serbian authorities in Merdar under unsubstantiated accusations of “war crimes.”
My father is an elderly man, 77 years old, with fragile health, and throughout his life he has been a peaceful citizen, a family man, without any criminal record.
His arrest has shaken our entire family and caused immense psychological and emotional distress. We live in complete insecurity and fear for his health, as he is held in an environment lacking safety and adequate medical care, and where he may face various psychological and physical pressures.
Official demands to Serbia:
- Immediate release of my father, or at minimum:
- Transfer of the case to Kosovo authorities according to the 2015 Justice Agreement, which stipulates that suspected war crime cases should be tried in Kosovo courts when the accused is a Kosovo citizen.
Legal and humanitarian reasoning:
- He was arrested without concrete evidence.
- There is no risk of flight (he has a family, address, and is elderly).
- His age and health condition make 77 days of detention unacceptable and inhumane.
- Continued detention poses a real risk to his life and dignity.
I urge you to use all legal, diplomatic, and institutional means to ensure that my father is returned to Kosovo and reunited with his family as soon as possible. Our family is living through extremely difficult days, and every passing hour is heavy for us. We request your support, voice, and action.
