Today and tomorrow, Kosovo observes the International Day of the Disappeared.

The Government Commission for Missing Persons, in an official statement, announced that commemorative ceremonies will be held today at 10:45 a.m. at the Monument for Missing Persons.

Over 1,600 citizens—mothers, fathers, and children—remain missing as a result of the genocidal war conducted by Serbia.

In efforts to clarify the fate of the missing, excavation sites remain a key component in the search and identification of human remains.

The Government Commission for Missing Persons continues excavations at several identified locations, while preparations are underway for new sites based on updated information, both within Kosovo and pending concrete actions from the Serbian side.

The Chair of the Government Commission for Missing Persons, Andin Hoti, stated that 17 locations in Kosovo have been investigated so far in the search for missing persons.

Hoti explained that human remains have been discovered at seven of these sites.

“Seventeen locations have been worked on so far in Kosovo, and human remains were found at seven of them (which have been sent for analysis to the ICMP Laboratory),” Hoti said.

According to him, several excavations have been completed, while five more locations are expected to be excavated.

“Currently, we have completed excavations in Vushtrri and Klinë at one location. There are at least five more locations where the teams are expected to take action,” Hoti told Front Online.

He confirmed that the remains of nine individuals have been found at locations in Kosovo.

“The human remains of at least nine individuals have been found, but DNA analysis will provide definitive confirmation,” Hoti added.
