The EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has announced that she is in Madrid, where she met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Kos said their discussions focused on building a more independent and secure Europe, with European Union enlargement as a key pillar.

“We discussed the progress we are making towards a more independent and secure Europe, with EU enlargement as a central pillar. I am also in Madrid to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the EU—a true European success story,” Kos wrote.

Her visit comes just days after she stated that there are “encouraging developments” regarding potential recognition of Kosovo’s independence by the five EU non-recognizing countries.

“Regarding the five non-recognizers, I am following what is happening and the development is encouraging,” Kos said on April 20, without providing further details.
