The Central Election Commission (CEC) has confirmed that the deadline for political entities to apply and submit candidate lists for the upcoming Local Elections officially closed at midnight on Wednesday. These elections will determine Municipal Mayors and members of Municipal Assemblies across the country.

The news was announced by CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi, who stated that the list of all political entities applying for certification will be published later today.

According to Elezi, the CEC will hold its next meeting on Thursday, August 14, at 14:00, with the agenda focusing on the certification of nine political entities for participation in the October 12, 2025 elections.

Out of these nine entities, four are citizen initiatives and five are independent candidates. In total, 66 candidates will represent them—four running for Municipal Mayor positions and 62 for Municipal Assembly seats.

“The process is proceeding according to the electoral timeline,” Elezi emphasized, noting that certification is a crucial step before the official start of the campaign.
