The death toll from the wildfires in Los Angeles has risen to at least ten, according to the city’s medical examiner, BBC reports.
Currently, five fires remain active in the area: Palisades, Eaton, Kenneth, Hurst, and Lidia.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson. The Los Angeles Police Department believes that the Kenneth fire, the most recent to break out, was started intentionally.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has also issued a zero-tolerance warning against looters, as reports indicate that at least 20 people have been arrested.
Firefighters have stated that the Kenneth fire is now 35% contained, while the Palisades fire is only 6% contained.
Stronger winds are expected on Friday and into next week, which could affect the fires in the Los Angeles and Ventura districts.
President Joe Biden has announced that the federal government will cover the full cost of measures to “protect lives and property” in Southern California for the next six months.
