The death toll from the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has climbed to 270, according to Indian authorities, who confirmed that they have recovered all bodies from the crash site.

The aircraft, which was headed to London, crashed in a residential area shortly after takeoff, killing all passengers and crew members on board, except for a 40-year-old man who miraculously survived.

Authorities are now working to determine the number of casualties on the ground and are continuing the long process of identifying victims through DNA testing, BBC reports.

A preliminary report into the crash has indicated that the main cause was a mechanical defect in the pilot’s seat. The report is expected to prompt immediate safety measures and action on other aircraft that may have similar issues.

In response, all Air India aircraft of the same model have been grounded and are undergoing thorough inspections.
