Following changes in the leadership of northern municipalities, now led by mayors from the Serbian List, debates have emerged regarding recent administrative decisions and their impact on municipal staff.
Some measures taken by municipal authorities, justified on legal and procedural grounds, have triggered reactions and concerns from political representatives and former officials, who are seeking clarification on their implementation and potential consequences for the multi-ethnic functioning of the municipalities.
Special attention is being paid to developments in the Zubin Potok Municipality, where recent decisions have sparked widespread discussion among the public.
Former Zubin Potok mayor, Izmir Zeqiri, told Kanal 10 that the situation in Zubin Potok is currently being guided by coordinated decisions, which he says result from political directives and may also extend to other northern municipalities.
Meanwhile, civil society representatives note that individuals with permanent contracts will not be removed from their jobs, signaling that not all staff positions are at risk.
It is worth recalling that the appointment of three Albanian mayors in Serb-majority northern municipalities had previously led to violent protests by Serbs, including the confinement of Albanian mayors within municipal buildings. In the October 12 municipal elections, these municipalities returned to the leadership of Serbian List mayors.
