Today marks a decisive moment for peace in Gaza. U.S. President Donald Trump is hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office. At the center of the White House talks is a 21-point plan aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip.
“We have a real opportunity for greatness in the Middle East. Everyone has agreed on something very special, for the first time in history,” the American president announced on social media, promising that the meeting with Netanyahu will yield positive results.
However, in an interview with Fox News, the Israeli prime minister did not confirm acceptance of the plan. “We are working on it,” he said. “It has not yet been finalized.” Meanwhile, Hamas stated it had not received any new proposal for a ceasefire. In a statement, Hamas reiterated its “readiness to examine any proposal it receives from its mediating brothers in a positive and responsible manner, while at the same time safeguarding the national rights of the Palestinian people.”
Israeli officials said Sunday that Netanyahu is expected to present reservations and push for changes to the ceasefire plan, underlining the difficulty of reaching an agreement, even though many details have already been worked out in advance.
He seeks to limit Qatar’s role in postwar Gaza. Several Arab countries and the Palestinian Authority have also asked the U.S. administration to revise the Gaza peace plan. According to Israel’s Channel 12, they are demanding reformulation of the clause concerning Hamas’s surrender of weapons.
But for Palestinians in Gaza, peace does not come from the sky… only death, destruction, and leaflets dropped by the Israeli army. The leaflets carried a clear demand for civilians to leave the enclave’s main city, where the IDF continues its fierce ground offensive. Protests against Prime Minister Netanyahu in Israel have not ceased. Meanwhile, a large art installation was seen on a Tel Aviv beach, depicting U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu facing each other with the words “Don’t Be Fooled Again.” In the artwork, Netanyahu is shown with a long nose.
