The defendants and their lawyers in the case concerning the terrorist attack on the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) offices in North Mitrovica in December 2022 have claimed that the accusations against them are baseless and lack sufficient evidence.
Defense Accuses Prosecution of Flawed Investigation
During a court session held on Friday, the defendants—Milun Milenković (known as Llune), Dejan Pantić, Miomir Vakić, and Aleksandar Vlajić—delivered their final statements. The defense lawyers and the accused all criticized the prosecution for what they described as an inadequate investigation and an indictment not supported by evidence.
Aleksandar Vlajić’s lawyer, Milloš Delević, argued that the investigation was insufficient and that the three pieces of evidence against his client were “unstable.” Vlajić himself supported this, stating, “From the beginning of the procedure, I have only spoken the truth and have nothing to hide. I have not committed these criminal offenses with which I am charged in this case. I was not involved; I was not part of these attacks that occurred on that date. I was not part of the group, there was no group, and I did not help this group in any way.”
Lubomir Pantović, the lawyer for Dejan Pantić, similarly claimed that the indictment was the result of “a weak investigation” and that “a weak investigation is the cause of a weak indictment.”
This comes after special prosecutor Fikrije Fejzullahu stated in her final address on July 2 that the presented material evidence and testimonies proved the defendants’ guilt. She emphasized the importance of a deserved sentence to prevent similar attacks in the future.
