“First and foremost, as a democratic country, which is a fundamental prerequisite, Kosovo meets the basic principle of all NATO countries as a democratic nation. Kosovo’s democracy has been recognized and, naturally, the state-building of Kosovo itself has been supported by NATO countries and Western countries. Politically, constitutionally, and in terms of state formation, we have made extraordinary strides in bringing the country closer to NATO,” he told RTV21, adding that in the defense aspect, Kosovo has built a force that is constructed in accordance with NATO standards.
Maqedonci added that all purchases of the KSF’s (Kosovo Security Force) armament systems are made from NATO countries.
The Defense Minister stated that Kosovo could become a NATO member without being part of the Partnership for Peace organization. According to him, the Partnership for Peace was a transitional phase for communist countries before they became part of NATO.
Maqedonci emphasized that the stagnation of Kosovo’s NATO membership is also a result of non-recognizing countries.
However, he asserted that disagreements between the Government and the USA do not affect NATO membership.
